Georgia Senate recognizes and commends Andrea Young upon her retirement as Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Georgia in Spring 2026, after leading the organization since January 2017

Young's tenure at ACLU of Georgia included work on voting rights protection, criminal justice reform, freedom of speech, immigrant rights, and reproductive rights advocacy

Prior career includes legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy (contributing to the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday and anti-apartheid legislation), Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, and founding executive director of the Andrew J. Young Foundation

Served as adjunct professor at Georgia State University's Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and co-authored the memoir An Easy Burden: Civil Rights and the Transformation of America

Secretary of the Senate directed to provide a copy of the resolution to Andrea Young
