Powder Springs was founded as Springville in 1838 and renamed in 1859 after the mineral springs whose water turned surrounding sand black, resembling gunpowder

The city is located 25 miles northwest of Atlanta and features a historic downtown and Towne Square

The Secretary of the Senate is directed to distribute copies of the resolution to the public and press
