Served as commissioner with the DeKalb County Housing Authority for more than a decade and as vice-chair of the Georgia Piedmont Technical College Board of Directors

Received numerous honors including DeKalb County History Maker recognition (2017 and 2026), a Lifetime Achievement Award during the Biden administration, and the Nathaniel Mosby Humanitarian Award
