Georgia Senate Resolution 804 recognizes and commends Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Geneva Heyward for her 27-year career in the United States Army Signal Corps, serving as a Communications Electronic Officer in both active duty and Army Reserve

Heyward, a native of Beaufort, South Carolina, earned her commission as Second Lieutenant from Central State University in 1981 and rose through the ranks to Lieutenant Colonel by 2000

Her military assignments included service in Germany with the 52nd Signal Battalion, the 335th Signal Theater Command in Atlanta, and her final post at 1st Army Headquarters at Fort Gillem as Operations and Training Officer

Awards received include the President's Lifetime Achievement Award and two Meritorious Service Medals

She remains active as a charter and life member of the National Association of Black Military Women, volunteering with the NABMW's Real Women Read initiative
