Georgia Senate recognizes and commends Dorothy Norwood, an Atlanta-born gospel singer, songwriter, and storyteller known as "The World's Greatest Gospel Storyteller" with a career spanning more than six decades

Norwood joined The Caravans gospel group in the early 1960s, performing with Albertina Walker and Shirley Caesar, and launched her solo career in 1964 with the debut album Johnny and Jesus

Her 1991 album Live with The Northern California G.M.W.A. Mass Choir reached No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Chart, and she has received multiple Grammy nominations and Stellar Awards

Now in her 80s, Norwood continues to record and perform, recognized for her contributions to African American cultural expression and Black gospel music with deep roots in Georgia

Secretary of the Senate is directed to provide a copy of the resolution to Dorothy Norwood
