HI HB1392

Directs the Department of Land and Natural Resources to study Makapipi Stream in the Nahiku district of Maui to determine if it is sufficiently protected in the public interest.

Requires the department to collect instream flow data including information on fishing, wildlife, aesthetic, recreational, water quality, water flow, seasonal changes, and ecological characteristics.

Mandates investigation of water diversions from the stream, threatened or endangered instream uses, debris amounts and causes, and whether an instream flow standard should be adopted.

Requires the department to recommend measures necessary to ensure the stream is protected in the public interest.

Requires submission of findings and any recommended legislation to the legislature at least twenty days before the 2010 regular session convenes.
