HB 1777 Summary

• Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 190-2 to require the Department of Land and Natural Resources to designate marine life conservation districts on each island in the State.

• Mandates that at least 5% of shoreline on each Hawaiian island be designated as marine life conservation district.

• Maintains existing departmental authority to establish and modify conservation district boundaries within counties and declare all waters within any county a conservation district if deemed necessary.

• Takes effect upon approval.
