HI HB1826

Prohibits the state from selling or exchanging ceded lands, including lands ceded to the United States by the Republic of Hawaii under the 1898 joint resolution of annexation and later granted to the state under the 1959 Admission Act.

Adds two new sections (171-A and 171-B) to Chapter 171, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to enforce the prohibition on sale and exchange of specified ceded lands.

Amends Section 171-13 to clarify that board dispositions of public lands cannot result in alienation of ceded lands covered by the new sections.

Establishes that the prohibition is based on the state's fiduciary responsibility as steward of ceded lands under Article XII, Section 4 of the Hawaii Constitution, and the need to resolve Native Hawaiian claims.

Sunsets on June 30, 2013, automatically repealing the restrictions unless reenacted by the legislature.
