Department of Land and Natural Resources directed to develop hazard mapping to identify areas vulnerable to landslides and land failure that pose safety risks to the public.

Department shall review current state geological maps to determine their adequacy and relevance, and consult with the Land Use Commission to ensure proper use of hazard mapping information in land classification decisions.

Department directed to consult with federal agencies including the United States Geological Survey and University of Hawaii to assess vulnerable areas and pursue matching funds through the USGS Statemap program.

Appropriates unspecified general revenue funds for fiscal year 2010-2011 to develop hazard mapping of dangerous conditions on unimproved state land.

Department required to submit report to legislature by twenty days before the 2011 regular session convening regarding assessment status, availability of matching funds, and status of funding requests; effective July 1, 2010.
