HB 766 Summary

• Transfers jurisdiction and management of specific Kahana Valley parcels (tax map keys 5-2-01:1, 5-2-02 all parcels, and 5-2-05:1 and 21) from the Department of Land and Natural Resources to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

• Directs the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to assume management authority over the transferred lands in accordance with Act 5, Session Laws of Hawaii 1987, which established long-term residential lease provisions for qualified residents.

• Requires the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to assist six families currently facing eviction to obtain long-term residential leases if they meet the original Act 5 qualification requirements.

• Transfers all related appropriations, records, equipment, contracts, and property held by DLNR to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, with all existing rules and procedures remaining in effect until amended.

• Takes effect upon approval.
