Appropriates $500,000 from general revenues for fiscal year 2009-2010 as a grant-in-aid to Hawaii County for the design of a 5 million gallon water reservoir in South Kohala.

The new reservoir will replace the existing 4 million gallon clean water reservoir at the Waimea water treatment plant and be designed to withstand intense seismic impacts.

Construction of the new reservoir aims to minimize service disruptions to critical state facilities such as hospitals and schools in the event of an earthquake.

Hawaii County is responsible for expending the appropriated funds for the purposes outlined in the bill.

The Act takes effect on July 1, 2009.
