Request the Civil Defense Division of the Department of Defense to prepare a feasibility report on requiring all retail gasoline stations in Hawaii to be pre-wired for electrical generators.

Report must include estimated costs for the project, availability of federal homeland security or pre-disaster funds to offset costs, and availability of qualified Hawaii businesses to perform installations and testing.

Resolution cites Hurricane Katrina's impact on fuel pump operations and references Florida's existing requirement for gasoline stations to install generator wiring and transfer switches.

Hawaii has 283 retail gasoline stations that would be affected by such a requirement.

Civil Defense Division must submit findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2011 Regular Session convenes.
