Department of Public Safety must make mandatory its existing program for preparing soon-to-be-released parents and enhance it with information and training on parental responsibilities.

Department must inform incarcerated parents that they are responsible for contacting the court regarding child support obligations and notifying the court of their inability to pay due to incarceration.

Department must submit a report to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the convening of the 2011 Regular Session detailing actions taken to implement this measure.

Resolution addresses findings from the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Task Force that incarcerated parents lack understanding of their child support rights and responsibilities and face difficulties reintegrating with their children and families upon release.
