Urges Oahu Publications, Inc. to continue publication of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin or provide sufficient time to find a qualified buyer to preserve two independent daily newspapers in Hawaii.

Addresses concerns that OPI is not offering a viable commercial entity for sale because Midweek, which contains the newest printing press, is not being included with the Star-Bulletin.

Notes testimony that at least 120 days is needed for a legitimate sale of the newspaper.

Requests the Department of Justice examine economic and advertising restraint of trade issues that would result if the Star-Bulletin ceases publication and Midweek and the Honolulu Advertiser merge under a single corporate entity.

Finds that continued publication of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin is essential to maintaining well-founded discussion and commentary that supports democratic society.
