HCR 334 Summary

• Requests the Department of Agriculture and Department of Land and Natural Resources to work with the Taro Security and Purity Task Force to identify and designate state lands suitable for taro production by January 1, 2012.

• Directs agencies to develop a consistent and affordable lease rent rate schedule for taro farmland with a cap of no more than $100 per acre, regardless of adjacent land values.

• Requires review and development of consistent qualifying criteria for taro farmers to access farm leases by January 1, 2012.

• Mandates that agencies provide taro farmers and organizations with access to taro land inventories, lease opportunities, and qualifying criteria and costs by January 1, 2012.

• Requires the Department of Agriculture and Department of Land and Natural Resources to submit a report to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2012 regular session on taro land reclassification and lease modifications.
