H.R. 254 Summary

• Requests the Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Land and Natural Resources to complete a statewide survey and inventory identifying and documenting historic properties, aviation artifacts, burial sites, and human skeletal remains held by the State or under State control.

• Directs the Division to prioritize an initial survey of historic properties, burial goods, sites, and human skeletal remains of cultural importance and significance to the Hawaiian community, with completion by December 31, 2010.

• Requires submission of an initial report of findings and inventory to the House no later than twenty days before the 2011 Regular Session convenes.

• Requires submission of a final comprehensive report and inventory of all historic properties, aviation artifacts, and burial sites to the House no later than twenty days before the 2012 Regular Session, including any Hawaiian cultural items identified after the initial report.

• Directs transmission of certified copies to the Board of Land and Natural Resources Chairperson, State Historic Preservation Officer, and Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees for distribution to relevant Native Hawaiian organizations.
