Requests that the Department of Land and Natural Resources and other state agencies protect and preserve the auwai (water ditch system) of Nuuanu Valley.

Describes the historic auwai system developed by ancient Hawaiian inhabitants to irrigate taro fields throughout Nuuanu Valley, which was rebuilt by Kuhooheiheipahu Paki after the Battle of Nuuanu.

Notes that of the fourteen original auwai in Nuuanu Valley, only about eight remain either flowing or repairable due to closure, diversion, or being covered up during the valley's residential development.

Recognizes that the Hawaii Historic Foundation and State Historic Preservation Division named the Auwai of Nuuanu Valley as one of the nine most endangered historic places on the 2008 List of endangered places.

Directs certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the Governor, Board of Land and Natural Resources Chairperson, Historic Hawaii Foundation, and Nuuanu Valley Auwai Study Group.
