HI SB1063

Amends the definition of "employment" in Hawaii workers' compensation law to exclude self-employed individuals and their immediate family members who perform service for the individual.

Adds a new exclusion category (paragraph 10) stating that service performed for remuneration by an individual or by an immediate family member of the individual for the individual is not covered employment.

Preserves all existing employment exclusions including voluntary service for nonprofits, students at educational institutions, religious clergy, domestic workers earning less than $225 per quarter, and real estate commission-based workers.

Becomes effective upon approval with no retroactive effect on rights, duties, penalties, or proceedings that occurred before the effective date.
