SB2249 Summary

• Adds a new offense of assault against a water safety officer to Chapter 707 of the Hawaii Revised Statutes.

• Establishes two forms of the offense: (a) intentionally or knowingly causing bodily injury to a water safety officer performing duty, or (b) recklessly causing bodily injury with a dangerous instrument.

• Classifies assault against a water safety officer as a class C felony.

• Defines "water safety officer" as a county employee whose principal duty is to guard beaches and ensure public safety.

• Takes effect July 1, 2010.
