Requires nurses licensed in Hawaii to complete 15 hours of continuing education during each two-year license renewal period, with the board authorized to grant extensions for good cause.

Licenses that fail to meet the continuing education requirement by the expiration date are automatically placed on inactive status.

Provides a transition period for licenses renewing on or before June 30, 2011, allowing until December 31, 2011 to complete continuing education requirements while maintaining valid license status.

Aligns nursing licensure requirements with other professions in the state such as physicians, optometrists, and real estate salespersons that already require continuing education for license renewal.

Effective date of June 30, 2013 for implementation of the continuing education requirement.
