SB 2836 - Net Energy Metering

• Increases maximum generating capacity for eligible customer-generators from 50 kilowatts to 100 kilowatts.

• Raises the total allowable rated generating capacity from 0.5% to 3% of an electric utility's system peak demand, or alternatively 15% of peak circuit demand for distribution-level circuits of 12 kilovolts or lower.

• Requires the Public Utilities Commission to reserve a percentage of total generating capacity for eligible residential or small commercial customer-generators.

• Authorizes the Public Utilities Commission to modify capacity requirements by rule or order and to evaluate requirements on an island-by-island basis.

• Effective upon approval.
