Entitles public employees of the State of Hawaii and its political subdivisions to two weeks of paid administrative parental leave per calendar year.

Paid parental leave must be used as part of the four-week family leave period already available under state law, with no more than four weeks total family leave permitted in any twelve-month period.

Parental leave covers leave in connection with the birth of a child or adoption of a child by the employee.

Employees may use paid administrative parental leave, accrued vacation leave, or accrued sick leave for parental purposes, with no requirement to use accrued leave before using administrative leave.

Paid administrative parental leave does not accumulate beyond each calendar year and is payable from existing agency salary and expense appropriations, effective July 1, 2009.
