S.C.R. No. 177 Summary

• Requests the Department of Accounting and General Services to work with the Hawaii Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation, county police departments, Department of Public Safety, United States Marshals Service, State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers, and Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc. to plan and construct a Hawaii State Law Enforcement Memorial on the grounds of the Hawaii State Capitol.

• Memorial should honor law enforcement personnel at local, state, and federal levels who died in the line of duty in Hawaii; fifty officers have been killed according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

• Specifies the memorial should be perpetual, call attention to officer bravery and public service, and be funded through private donations rather than state funds.

• Requests the Department of Accounting and General Services consider locating the memorial on the Diamond-Head side of the State Capitol and submit a report with findings, recommendations, projected costs, and implementing legislation no later than twenty days before the 2011 Regular Session convenes.
