Request that University of Hawaii, Department of Education, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, and other state public entities spend 10 percent of their food dollars on locally-produced Hawaii agricultural products.

Cite Hawaii's heavy food import dependency (85-90 percent of consumed food imported) and the potential economic benefits of increasing local food purchases.

Estimate that replacing 10 percent of imported foods would generate $188,000,000 in economy-wide sales, $47,000,000 in earnings, $6,000,000 in state tax revenues, and more than 2,300 jobs.

Require designated agencies to report to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2011 Regular Session on their progress in purchasing locally-produced goods and recommendations for improvements.

Transmit certified copies to the Governor, University of Hawaii President, Education Superintendent, and Hawaii Health Systems Corporation President and CEO.
