Request that the Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Land and Natural Resources oversee establishment of a lo'i (taro paddy) on the State Capitol grounds.

Kalo (taro) was designated as Hawaii's official state plant in 2007 and holds significant cultural and genealogical importance in Hawaiian culture as a sacred food source.

Direct the Historic Preservation Division to work with native Hawaiian preservation and education groups to secure private donations for materials, allow Onipa'a Na Hui Kalo to provide labor, and coordinate with Oahu Hawaiian immersion and charter schools for education and cultural activities.

Require the Historic Preservation Division to submit a progress report to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2011 Regular Session convenes.

Transmit certified copies of the resolution to the Board of Land and Natural Resources, State Historic Preservation Officer, Onipa'a Na Hui Kalo Board of Directors, and the Charter School Administrative Office Executive Director.
