Department of Education requested to establish a task force to create an educational program for high school coaches, trainers, and athletic departments on preventing and minimizing injuries to athletes.

Task force membership to include the Superintendent of Education, Charter School Administrative Office Executive Director, athletic directors and coaches representing different interscholastic leagues, Hawaii High School Athletic Association Executive Director, and a University of Hawaii sports medicine professional.

Task force must develop a mandatory training program covering identification of outdated or harmful exercises, early signs of potential injuries in individual athletes, and treatment options available through physical therapists and trainers.

Task force to submit a report with recommendations and proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2011 Regular Session convenes.

Certified copies of the resolution to be transmitted to education officials and representatives of all interscholastic athletic associations and federations statewide.
