S.C.R. 95 Summary

• Request that the State Librarian establish a task force composed of representatives from public, private, philanthropic, commercial, governmental, nongovernmental, and cultural organizations from all islands.

• Task force is to identify library services needed in underserved communities, including required resources, facilities, collections, staffing, hours of operation, and services.

• Task force is to seek community sources of funding to offset funding losses to community and school libraries from the Department of Education.

• Task force is to submit findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the convening of the 2011 Regular Session.

• Task force shall become a permanent resource to assist the State Librarian in developing and updating the Hawaii State Public Library System long-range master plan.
