Extends the news media privilege established by Act 210 (Session Laws of Hawaii 2008) from June 30, 2011 to June 30, 2013, allowing journalists to protect their sources and unpublished information from compelled disclosure.

Requires the judiciary's standing committee on rules of evidence to report to the legislature by 20 days before the 2012 regular session with recommendations on whether to retain Act 210 as statute, codify it under Hawaii Rules of Evidence, or allow it to expire.

Directs the judiciary report to include information on similar legislation in other states, the effects of Act 210 on media and case prosecution, and any proposed amendments to Act 210.

Takes effect June 29, 2011.
