Requires the John A. Burns School of Medicine to convene a working group to discuss improvements to the prior authorization process for prescription medications.

Working group shall include healthcare providers, pharmacists, insurance carriers, health maintenance organizations, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders.

Working group must submit a report with proceedings, recommendations, and results to the legislature no later than 30 days before the 2012 regular session convenes.

Identifies standardization approaches from a 2010 Minnesota Department of Health report, including automated electronic data interchange, standardized drug lists and questions across payers, and integration with electronic prescribing and health records.

Effective date is July 1, 2050.
