Director of Department of Public Safety must report deaths of correctional facility or community correctional center employees occurring on facility grounds within 24 hours to senate president, house speaker, and legislative committee chairs responsible for public safety.

Director must report deaths of any Hawaii inmate incarcerated in a correctional facility or community correctional center within 24 hours using the same notification process.

Required report information includes decedent's name, whether deceased is inmate or employee, incident location, date and time of death, and cause of death.

If cause of death is not officially determined at time of initial report, director must provide notice of official cause within 24 hours of receiving that information.

Director may withhold decedent's name pending notification to next of kin or if identity is protected by state or federal law.
