Governor shall petition the United States Department of State to amend the international date line so Hawaii shares the same calendar day as Japan.

Moving the date line would allow Hawaii to share the same work week with Asia and enable travelers to fly from Hawaii to Asia on the same day, benefiting business ties between the State and Asia.

Hawaii would gain the distinction of being the first location in the United States to begin each calendar day, providing promotional value during events like New Year's and elections.

Governor must submit a report to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the 2012 regular session detailing the status and progress of the date line amendment petition.
