HB 233 Summary

• Creates a temporary emergency response vehicle noise task force within the Department of Health to examine the use of lights and sirens on emergency response vehicles in Hawaii.

• Task force shall determine the impact of emergency vehicle sirens on noise levels and public safety, and evaluate the effectiveness of using lights instead of sirens at night.

• Task force composition includes 2 House members, 2 Senate members, representatives from state departments (health, transportation, public safety), county officials (mayors, police, fire departments from all 4 counties), emergency medical services personnel, and state EMS advisory committee members.

• Task force must submit a written report with findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the legislature no later than 20 days before the 2012 regular session convening.

• Task force terminates on June 30, 2012.
