Request the Department of Education to convene a task force to identify and assess Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiatives and programs currently implemented in public schools.

Task force shall identify existing STEM initiatives, assess their efficacy in supporting curriculum and instruction, recommend STEM best practices, and evaluate the capacity and partnerships needed to sustain these programs.

Task force membership comprises nine positions including the Board of Education student member, Superintendent, University of Hawaii System leadership, Charter School Administrative Office leadership, Hawaii P-20 leadership, and two additional members selected by the Superintendent.

Department of Education, with University of Hawaii System cooperation, must submit findings, recommendations, and any legislative proposals to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the Regular Session of 2012.

Certified copies of the resolution shall be distributed to the Governor, relevant state directors, Board of Education Chair, Superintendent, and leadership of partner organizations.
