H.C.R. 194 Summary

• Creates a seven-member Lupus Awareness Task Force within the Department of Health to promote public and health professional education about lupus prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

• Task Force must develop a comprehensive plan addressing lupus awareness in minority populations and at-risk communities, including distribution of health information, educational materials for providers, and clinical advancement seminars.

• Task Force composition includes representatives from state agencies, lupus researchers, healthcare professionals, nonprofit women's and health organizations including Lupus Hawaii, and individuals with lupus.

• Members serve without compensation but receive reimbursement for travel expenses and designate a chair from among themselves.

• Director of Health must submit the Task Force's comprehensive plan to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the start of the 2012 Regular Session.
