HCR 259 Summary

• Request the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts to convene a task force to explore creating a new, sustainable symphony following the Honolulu Symphony's liquidation in 2009.

• Task force must develop a plan for a sustainable symphony that serves the community and provides all Hawaii students with exposure to symphony performances.

• Task force membership shall include the Executive Director of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, representatives from the Honolulu Symphony Society, Musicians' Association of Hawaii Local 677 AFM, and Honolulu Youth Symphony.

• Task force must select a chairperson and other officers from among its members and submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2012 Regular Session convenes.
