Recognizes lupus as a chronic, complex, and life-threatening immune system disorder that can affect joints, skin, and internal organs including the kidneys, heart, and brain.

Notes that approximately 90 percent of lupus sufferers are women in their childbearing years, with disproportionate impact on native Hawaiian women, Pacific Island women, and women of Asian descent.

Cites estimates that over 1.5 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with lupus or related diseases, with more than 10,000 affected in Hawaii.

Directs transmission of certified copies to the Governor and Director of Health.
