Request that the Governor establish a sister-state relationship between Hawaii and Queensland, Australia through the Hawaii Sister-State Committee for economic, cultural, and intellectual benefits.

Identify shared characteristics between Queensland and Hawaii including warm climates, tropical and agricultural industries, tourism-based economies, and similar governance structures with governors leading both states.

Note that Queensland generates approximately $4 billion annually in tourism revenue from millions of visitors attracted to destinations like the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Whitsunday Islands, and various natural attractions.

Direct the Governor and Hawaii Sister-State Committee to keep the legislature fully informed of the process in establishing the relationship and involve the legislature in its formalization.

Require certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States, Governor of Hawaii, Hawaii Tourism Authority leadership, and the Governor and Premier of Queensland, Australia.
