• Department of Education requested to convene a task force to identify and assess Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiatives and programs in public schools

• Task force to identify existing STEM programs, assess their efficacy, recommend best practices, and evaluate capacity and sustainability of current initiatives

• Task force membership includes Board of Education student member, Superintendent, directors from business/labor departments, University of Hawaii System leadership, Charter School Administrative Office director, Hawaii P-20 executive director, and two additional members selected by the Superintendent

• Department of Education and University of Hawaii System required to submit findings, recommendations, and legislative proposals to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2012 Regular Session convening
