Request that the Department of Education consider using property on Young Street adjacent to the Honolulu Academy of Arts' Academy Art Center as an art resource center for teachers.

Direct the Department of Education to establish a working group to explore the feasibility of relocating the Office of School Facilities and Support Services and repurposing the space as an art resource center for teachers.

Compose the working group of the Superintendent of Education (chair), a Honolulu Academy of Arts representative, elected state officials from the area interested in arts education, a Hawaii State Teachers Association representative, and other community members deemed appropriate by the superintendent.

Acknowledge that arts is one of ten core education disciplines required to meet national standards for grades K-12 and that the Department of Education currently has no central facility offering teachers professional training and development in the arts.

Direct transmission of certified copies of the resolution to the Superintendent of Education, Honolulu Academy of Arts Board Chair, Hawaii State Senate President, Hawaii State House Speaker, and Hawaii State Teachers Association Executive Director.
