Department of Transportation Services is requested to conduct a traffic and pedestrian study of the intersection of Mokuola Street and Hikimoe Street in Waipahu, Oahu.

Study shall include pedestrian and vehicle counts, safety concerns, collision and accident statistics, street lighting assessment, and costs and feasibility of installing additional street lighting and crosswalks.

Study must project increased motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic expected from completion of the Waipahu rail transit station on Mokuola Street.

Department must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the 2012 Regular Session.

Intersection serves senior care homes, elderly housing, assisted living facilities, and a bus terminal, with existing concerns including only one crosswalk and poor street lighting conditions.
