H.R. 245 Summary

• Requests the Legislative Reference Bureau to conduct a study on Hawaii's Post Retirement Allowance under Chapter 88-90, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to determine if it fulfills its purpose of maintaining a standard of living for retired state and county employees.

• Requires the study to evaluate whether the Post Retirement Allowance, calculated as a fixed 2.5% of a retiree's pension multiplied by years of service, is supplementing pensions sufficiently to keep up with inflation.

• Directs the Legislative Reference Bureau to submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2012 Regular Session convenes.

• Requires certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the Legislative Reference Bureau, Employees' Retirement System Administrator, Hawaii State Teachers Association–Retired, and Hawaii Government Employees Association Retirees Unit.
