Request Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health Division (DLIR) to study and develop quieter alternatives to delivery truck back-up beepers, including programmable switches that allow drivers to set deactivation periods.

Address noise pollution complaints in Waikiki from early morning back-up beepers starting as early as 5:30 a.m., which affects over 27,000 residents and millions of annual tourists.

DLIR must consider safety and liability concerns when evaluating quieter alternatives such as rear-view cameras or spotters as replacements for audible alarms.

DLIR must report findings, recommendations, and progress to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the Regular Session of 2012.

Certified copies to be sent to Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Department of Transportation, Department of Business Economic Development and Tourism, and Hawaii Tourism Authority.
