State Building Code Council is requested to adopt a requirement that automatic fire sprinklers be installed in all new one- and two-family dwellings in compliance with nationally-recognized safety codes.

Automatic fire sprinklers reduce the chance of death in a fire by approximately 80 percent and reduce average property loss by 71 percent per fire.

Council is requested to clarify the definition of one- and two-family dwellings and address issues of water accessibility and availability to all dwellings.

Council must submit a report of its findings, recommendations, and actions to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the Regular Session of 2015.

Certified copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Comptroller, State Building Code Council Chairperson, State Fire Council Chairperson, and each county Fire Chief.
