S.B. 1155 Summary

• Establishes a long-term agricultural lease task force within the department of agriculture to develop plans and recommendations for expanding long-term leases favorable to small farms and agricultural enterprises.

• Task force must meet at least five times between July 1, 2011, and December 1, 2011, and shall be dissolved on June 30, 2012.

• Task force membership includes the chairs of the board of agriculture and board of land and natural resources, plus representatives from the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation, Hawaii Farmers Union, Hawaii Cattlemen's Council, Kamehameha Schools, Alexander & Baldwin, Inc., and Grove Farm Company, Inc.

• Task force members serve without compensation but receive reimbursement for travel and incidental expenses.

• Appropriates unspecified general revenue funds for fiscal year 2011-2012 to support task force operations, travel, and preparation of a report to the legislature due twenty days before the 2012 Regular Session convening.
