Requires Hawaii health care facilities certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to report health care-associated infections to the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network according to CMS rules.

Mandates health care facilities authorize the CDC to grant the Department of Health access to health care-associated infection data reported to the National Healthcare Safety Network.

Authorizes the Department of Health to adopt rules requiring reporting of multidrug-resistant health care-associated infections, with the first year serving as a pilot program that will not be disclosed to the public.

Protects patient confidentiality by prohibiting disclosure of individual patient-level data while allowing the Department to issue public reports with aggregated data that may identify specific health care facilities.

Requires the Department of Health to submit a report to the legislature by twenty days before the 2012 regular session providing an update on health care-associated infection reporting efforts.
