Requires the department of education to establish high school diploma requirements that aim to prepare students for college and career readiness without need for remediation.

Department must create diploma standards that establish a strong academic foundation with knowledge and skills to enter postsecondary education, training, degree or certification programs, or apprenticeships.

Department must ensure diploma requirements prepare students to obtain, retain, and succeed in careers offering living wages and advancement opportunities.

Department of education must report to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2012 regular legislative session on the effectiveness of the new diploma requirements and any recommendations for amendments.

Act takes effect upon approval.
