Requires the department of public safety to pursue and obtain accreditation for the sheriff division from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. by December 1, 2014.

Department must report to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2012 regular session convening on its progress in seeking accreditation, including a description of the accreditation process and any problems or deficiencies encountered.

Recognizes the sheriff division's responsibilities in law enforcement, judicial security, and property protection, and notes a prior audit found the division lacking necessary training and equipment.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. has already accredited the Honolulu and Maui police departments and serves as a law enforcement credentialing authority established in 1979.
