Request the Department of Education to consider using property on Young Street adjacent to the Honolulu Academy of Arts' Academy Art Center as an art resource center for teachers.

Establish a working group chaired by the Superintendent of Education to explore feasibility of relocating the Department's Office of School Facilities and Support Services from the Young Street property and repurposing it as an art resource center.

Working group composition includes representatives from the Honolulu Academy of Arts, state elected officials interested in arts education from the area, Hawaii State Teachers Association, and other community members deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.

Recognize that arts are one of ten core education disciplines requiring Department of Education compliance with national K-12 standards and that the Department currently lacks a central facility for teacher professional training and development in the arts.

Transmit certified copies of the resolution to the Superintendent of Education, Senate President, House Speaker, Honolulu Academy of Arts, and Hawaii State Teachers Association.
