Legislature expresses support for removal of the term "Treaty of Annexation" cast in bronze on the statue of President William McKinley at McKinley High School in Honolulu.

The "Treaty of Annexation" inscribed on the statue never existed and was never implemented; Hawaii was annexed by joint resolution on July 7, 1898, not by treaty.

The inaccurate inscription contributes to misinformation about Hawaiian history and the U.S.-Hawaiian Kingdom relationship, harming historical education for students.

Department of Education and Department of Accounting and General Services are requested to take steps to remove the term from the bronze statue.

Certified copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Governor, Superintendent of Education, Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Hawaii's Congressional Delegation, and McKinley High School Principal.
