Request the Legislative Reference Bureau to study the Post Retirement Allowance under Chapter 88-90, Hawaii Revised Statutes, which provides benefits to state and county employee retirees.

Examine whether the current fixed, uncompounded allowance (calculated as 2.5% of pension multiplied by years of service) effectively helps retirees maintain their standard of living and keep pace with inflation.

Direct the Legislative Reference Bureau to report findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2012 Regular Session convenes.

Transmit certified copies to the Director of the Legislative Reference Bureau, Director of the Employees' Retirement System, Hawaii State Teachers Association–Retired, and Hawaii Government Employees Association Retirees Unit.
